Join us in August 2021 for our 20-night cruise tour incorporating 14 nights onboard Seabourn Venture. Our tour includes 2 nights in London, with a short flight to Reykjavik for a 2-night stay at the 5 star Hotel Borg. On the 4th of September, we’ll board the brand new, ultra-luxury, purpose-built expedition ship, Seabourn Venture.

The ship is designed to carry a complement of kayaks and 24 Zodiacs that can accommodate all onboard guests at once. In addition, two custom-built submarines are carried onboard providing an unforgettable view of the world beneath the ocean’s surface. Seabourn Venture will feature 132 luxurious oceanfront veranda suites. Purpose-built, Seabourn Venture is built to PC6 Polar Class standards and will include a plethora of modern hardware and technology. Combined with the team of 26 experts, Venture will bring the expedition experience to life in true Seabourn ultra-luxury.

After our cruise, we’ll take a flight to Reykjavik airport where our helicopters will be waiting to whisk us to one of the world’s most unique hotels, The Retreat Blue Lagoon - what a way to conclude.

    Sermilik Fjord | Scenic Cruising

    Its name means ‘place with glaciers’ in Greenlandic, and it culminates in multiple glaciers including Helheim, Fenris and Midgard glaciers, which feed a steady flow of icebergs into the fjord. Surrounded by steep mountainous shoreline and filled with sculpted icebergs, it makes a spectacular setting.

    Umivik Bay, Greenland | Cruising

    Unlike the sheer cliffs and rugged terrain presented by much of the coastline, the shores inside the bay are smooth and the massive Greenland Ice Sheet comes right down to the shore in undulating slopes. There are several large islands in the bay, including Uppernattivik Island smack in the middle. There are calving glaciers to survey and a landing is possible here as well.

    Imagine a narrow fjord bordered by rugged peaks, vertical rock walls and serpentine rivers of ice plunging into the sea. Barren of large trees, Skjoldungen Fjord is carpeted in colorful dwarf birch and willow forests that may grow several feet high, as well as a variety of low-growing Arctic wildflowers.

    Prince Christian Sound | Cruising

    The transit of the Prince Christian Sound is one of the highlights of cruising in Greenland. The sound is narrow, sometimes as little as 1500 feet across, and numerous glaciers reach the sea on its shores, calving icebergs into the sound. High, barren and sharply defined peaks tower on both sides. 

    It is a breathtaking display of natural splendor in the severe, rugged vernacular of rock, ice and sea that is unique to the arctic realm.

    Tiny Aappilattoq is located in the Prince Christian Sound at Greenland’s southern tip, in the municipality of Kullaleq.The sound is enfolded by steep, unglaciated mountains, rising sheer from the water to sharp, shattered peaks. The town’s setting is particularly picturesque, its brightly painted houses scattered across a small peninsula of humped granite domes, under a backdrop of a looming pyramid of stone.

    Spend the morning exploring Qaqortoq, the largest city in Southern Greenland with 3,300 inhabitants. The town occupies steep rises above the natural small-boat harbour. 

    Qaqortoq is perhaps best known for its open-air art exhibition, The Stone & Man project, designed to transform the town into an outdoor gallery or take the time to visit the Mendebronden, the oldest fountain in Greenland,

    Located at the head of the protecting Tunulliarfik Fjord in southwestern Greenland, Brattahlid was an early Viking colony established by Eric the Red in the 10th century. It held what was the first European church in the New World, a replica of which has been reconstructed near the original site. Your expedition team archaeologist can evoke the history of the colony, as well as the remains of farm buildings and other remnants of the community, which survived until the 15thcentury.

    Paamiut (Frederikshab), Greenland

    The small town of Paamiut and its 1,600 inhabitants remain off the beaten track of Greenlandic tourism. This is remote Greenland at its best. The town itself consists of a multitude of brightly colored buildings.

    Keep your eyes peeled, White-tailed eagles, known as Nattoralik in Greenlandic, are plentiful in the region, and are said to bring good luck to anyone who sees them.

    Greenland’s capital, Nuuk, is a city of vitality and Greenlandic culture. Here old traditions and modern influences combine to create a diverse population.

    The site of Nuuk was occupied as far back as 2200 BC by ancient pre-Inuit peoples from Canada. It was settled again in the 10th century by Viking explorers, whilst the current city was founded in 1728.

    Maniitsoq (Sukkertoppen), Greenland

    Maniitsoq, intersected by small natural canals, has been dubbed the ‘Venice of Greenland’ by the locals. Colorful houses reflected in the calm water, stunning mountain scenes, smiling and friendly people and the occasional Greenlandic sled-dog are just a few of the photographic opportunities in Maniitsoq.

    This is a grand landscape, remote, secluded and a treasure for those fortunate enough to explore it.

    Sisimiut (Holsteinsborg), Greenland

    Located 24 miles (40 km) north of the Arctic Circle, Sisimiut is “rough, real and remote.” These three words cut to the core of Sisimiut’s reputation as an outdoor adventure-travel hub. It’s the second-largest city in Greenland and one of the most picturesque, set in a tranquil fjord perched on bare outcrops of rock. 

    Mount Nasaasaaq, 2,572’ (784 m) tall, is the backdrop for the town, where colorful houses of bright red, yellow, green and blue stand out in stark contrast to a landscape of gray and white.

    Kangerlussuaq | Disembark | Blue Lagoon

    Today, we will bid farewell to Seabourn Venture. On arrival, you will be met and transferred to the airport for your return flight to Reykjavik.

    From here, journey to the centre of the earth. The dormant Thrihnukagigur volcano, also known as "Three Peaks Crater" is a truly unique natural phenomenon. For your comfort, we'll transfer to the crater by helicopter giving you a bird's eye view of the surrounding landscape. Join the team for a descend to 120 metres to the bottom of the volcano's magma chamber in an open cable lift. The volcano last erupted over 4,000 years ago and there are no indications of it erupting again in the near future. We’ll transfer by helicopter from the volcano directly to our final destination, the world renowned Blue Lagoon, staying 2 nights in a Junior Suite at the new Retreat Hotel.
