Itinerary

Day 1 Amsterdam, Netherlands

Your journey starts in Australia*. On arrival in Amsterdam you will be driven by private car to your hotel where you will spend the next 2 nights.

Day 2 Amsterdam, Netherlands

After breakfast, enjoy the day at leisure.

Delve into the glories of Amsterdam's golden age: the doors to the Van Gogh museum open early just for you and your fellow passengers, and an art expert guides you through this remarkable collection (The Potato Eaters and Sunflowers are just two of its highlights), followed by one of two ways to experience the historic city. You may cruise the 400-year-old canals or stroll through the medieval Begijnhof, home to Amsterdam's oldest wood houses, and visit the elegant 17th-century Van Loon mansion.

Day 3 Amsterdam, Netherlands - Embarkation day

After breakfast, enjoy your last day in Amsterdam before being driven by private car to the river cruise pier for embarkation.

Day 4 Cologne, Germany

You have an array of choices for how you wish to experience Cologne's many treasures. Those interested in history and architecture can stroll with a local expert through Old Town to the city's iconic UNESCO-listed Gothic Cologne Cathedral.

Day 5 Rudesheim, Germany

Rudesheim am Rhein is a town in the Rhine Valley, Germany. It's known for winemaking, especially of Riesling wines. In the centre, Drosselgasse is a lane lined with shops, taverns and restaurants. Nearby, Siegfried's Mechanical Music Cabinet is a museum of automated musical instruments. Medieval Bromserburg Castle is home to the Rheingau Wine Museum, exhibiting wine paraphernalia from ancient times to the present.

Day 6 Frankfurt, Germany

Vibrant Frankfurt, often referred to as the "Manhattan" of Europe, boasts world-class museums, soaring skyscrapers, cosy wine taverns and lovely parks. Choose a brief tour that gives you an overview of this major European financial and trade centre. Alternatively, visit romantic Heidelberg and its Renaissance castle.

Day 7 Wertheim, Germany

After today, you may never eat a pretzel again without thinking of the town of Wertheim. You'll meet one of Germany's best pretzel makers, as well as the owner of a historic wine estate. If you're more in the mood for a scenic bike ride, you are welcome to do that instead.

Day 8 Wurzburg, Germany

Art lovers will want to visit the Wurzburg Residence, and fairytale lovers will want to go to Rothenburg and Weikersheim, where you can visit a grand palace.

Day 9 Kitzingen, Germany

Kitzingen is a town in the German state of Bavaria, capital of the district Kitzingen. It is part of the Franconia geographical region and has around 21,000 inhabitants. Surrounded by vineyards, Kitzingen County is the largest wine producer in Bavaria. It is said to be Franconia's wine trade center.

Day 10 Bamberg, Germany

City dwellers will wish to discover Bamberg, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and country dwellers will wish to experience a Franconian village outing.

Day 11 Nuremberg, Germany

Arrive in the archetypal medieval German city of Nuremberg. Nuremberg is justifiably famous for its gingerbread and pocket watches, and it was also the site of some key moments in 20th-century history. You'll choose between two memorable ways of exploring this exceptional city. You can join a tour of a secret Nazi art bunker hidden underground, or you can accompany a local expert to the city's most important WWII sites, including the enormous Nazi Party Rally Grounds—the actual site of the Nazi Party rallies.

Day 12 Regensburg, Germany

Bavaria's first capital, Regensburg, owes its impressive historical lineage and rich architectural heritage to 600 years as a Free Imperial City, a fact recognized by UNESCO in 2006. Today, you'll discover how the beautifully preserved medieval city coexists with a vibrant modern urban centre.

Day 13 Passau, Germany

Discover Passau with a variety of choices, either on an intimate walking tour, panoramic city tour or via a "Go Active" choice with a ride along one of the most beautiful stretches of the Danube and into the heart of Passau.

Day 14 Melk, Austria

Melk is an Austrian town on the River Danube, west of Vienna. It's known for the 11th-century Melk Abbey, a vast monastery built high above the town. Gold statuary adorns its domed Abbey Church, and the huge library houses medieval manuscripts. The Marmorsaal is a baroque hall with a ceiling fresco and red marble walls. South of Melk, gardens surround Renaissance Schallaburg Castle, which hosts cultural exhibitions.

Day 15 Vienna, Austria

Get acquainted with Vienna's treasure trove of imperial gems with a city tour or visit Prince Eugene's Winter Palace. If you prefer to experience the city's artistic gems, you can join an art tour, featuring a Gustav Klimt exhibit at the Belvedere.

Day 16 Budapest

Budapest, Hungary's capital, is bisected by the River Danube. Its 19th-century Chain Bridge connects the hilly Buda district with flat Pest. A funicular runs up Castle Hill to Buda's Old Town, where the Budapest History Museum traces city life from Roman times onward. Trinity Square is home to 13th-century Matthias Church and the turrets of the Fishermen's Bastion, which offer sweeping views.

Overnight in port

Day 17 Budapest, Hungary - Disembark

Today you will disembark the ship. A private car will take you to your hotel where you will spend another 2 nights in Budapest.

Day 18 Budapest, Hungary

After breakfast, enjoy the day at leisure.

Day 19 Budapest, Hungary

After breakfast, enjoy your last day in Budapest before being taken to the airport in a private car transfer. End of your amazing holiday.
