A scenic gem – wherever you see it from! Wander between buildings adorned with turrets, showy spires and carved dragonheads. Or climb to Kniven for sweeping views of the town, skerries and mountains. Spectacular!

At Tromso, you’re nearly 250 miles inside the Arctic Circle. Clues to your location are everywhere; the bars are fully stocked with Arctic Beer and the Arctic Cathedral resembles a geometric glacier. Tromso features the Polaria Arctic Centre, where the exhibits recreate a polar bear den and an Arctic snowstorm. You might experience them for real from the cable cars that climb Mount Storsteinen.

Lying just 137 miles inside the Arctic Circle, Narvik may be one of the world's most northerly towns, but the North Atlantic currents and the mountains that shelter the town make it surprisingly mild. From late May until late July, the Midnight Sun often sets the landscapes aglow with intense yellows and fiery red-orange hues. One of the best spots to admire its effect on the majestic landscapes is to whisk up Narvikfjellen by cable car for sublime views over the city and the surrounding fjords.

Stavanger's Romanesque cathedral and old medieval lanes blend beautifully with the modern city and spectacular countryside. Journey back in time on a tour of Utstein Cloister, a beautifully preserved Augustin Monastery from the Middle Ages.
